Créée dans le but de développer l'aviation, la Coupe Schneider fut un trophée qui favorisa la course à la vitesse, de 1913 à 1931. On passa ainsi du premier vainqueur à 70km/h de moyenne à 540km/h en 1931! Ce seront principalement les britanniques et les italiens qui meneront la danse. Et le Supermarine S6B sera l'aboutissement du design des hydravions de course britanniques, imaginé par R.J.Mitchell, futur "père" du Spitfire.

Created in order to encourage aviation expansion and performance, the Schneider Trophy was the fuel of the race for speed, from 1913 to 1931. The first winner of a leg performed an average 70km/h, while the latest was 540km/h in 1931! British and Italian teams were ruling the event. And the Supermarine S6B was the culmination of the british race floatplanes design, created by R.J.Mitchell, who will be the "father" of the Spitfire.
